We've endorsed the Global Day of Action to #CloseBases on February 23rd. And this sample of what we had at Shannon Airport in the last 2 days demonstrates why.

Omni Air N819AX landed at Shannon last night 2 Feb and took off 3 Feb and flew on to Poznan Nato base in Poland. It landed back at Shannon this evening and is now on its way back to the US.

US Navy C40 number 16-6694 arrived at Shannon on 1 Feb spent two overnights at Shannon and made a return trip from Shannon to Rota air base in Spain and arrived back at Shannon about 16.15 on 3 Feb.

German Luftwaffe Bombardier 700 arrived at Shannon about 12.15 coming most likely on a training flight having also made landing stops in Scotland, Denmark Germany and France.

We want to end the US military use of Shannon. But we also call for the dismantling of the thousands of military bases, both foreign and domestic, around the world that form a critical piece of the global war machine. Closing bases is a necessary step to shift the global security paradigm towards a demilitarized approach that centers common security — no one is safe until all are safe.

Shannon Airport is a part of the global war machine. The military presence there must be ended.
