On March 10th Dublin for Gaza and Action for Palestine Ireland engaged in a peaceful protest in the terminal building at Shannon Airport to demand that no US weapons be transported to Israel through Ireland. In doing so they highlighted the fact that at least four US warplanes travelling from Tel Aviv have landed at Shannon.

As reported in TheJournal.ie, the group of pro-Palestine protesters occupied the departure halls of Shannon Airport for approximately 90 minutes. The were demanding an immediate end to the transport of US weapons to Israel via Irish airports.

In a statement released on behalf of Dublin for Gaza and Action for Palestine, the two groups called on the Government to refuse exemptions for US planes transporting weapons through Irish airports.

They have also written an open letter to Ken Spratt, Secretary General at the Department of Transport; Eamonn Ryan, Minister for Transport; Jack Chambers, Minister of State at the Department of Transport;, Micheal Martin, Minister for Department of Foreign Affairs; Mary Considine, CEO of Shannon Airport Group; and Conal Henry,Chairperson Shannon Airport Group. In it they demand that action be taken to end Ireland's complicity in the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people. As the letter says, srael’s invasion and occupation of Palestinian lands, including Gaza, has been deemed “plausibly genocidal” by the ICJ, and has claimed the lives of over 28,000 Palestinian people so far. The US are materially supporting Israel’s genocidal campaign by supplying munitions of war, including drones and bombs, which are used to kill civilians in Palestine.
